About Maegan

I'm Maegan Kenney.
Transpersonal Psychologist • Licensed Professional Counselor • Board-Certified Coach

I help adults understand the deeper patterns shaping their lives and integrate experiences that change how they understand themselves.

I'm a depth-oriented psychotherapist and transpersonal psychologist whose work integrates Jungian psychology, shadow work, inner child healing, ego integration, and contemplative psychology.

Through Third Realm Integration, I offer specialized virtual psychotherapy, transpersonal coaching, psychedelic integration coaching, and ketamine integration therapy for adults seeking thoughtful support through significant inner change.

This is not a general mental health practice. My work is intentionally focused on helping insight-oriented adults understand what life-changing experiences are asking of them—and how to integrate those experiences into everyday life with clarity, discernment, and compassion.

Why This Work Matters to Me

I didn't arrive at this work by accident.

Over the past decade, I've become increasingly fascinated by what happens when experiences change our understanding of ourselves.

Whether those experiences arise through trauma, grief, spiritual awakening, psychedelics, or life's unexpected turning points, I believe they deserve more than symptom management. They deserve thoughtful psychological integration.

My work has become a lifelong study of helping people understand and integrate life's transformative experiences through depth-oriented psychotherapy and compassionate reflection.

Where Psyche and Spirit Meet

Psychology offers remarkable ways of understanding suffering.

Spiritual traditions have spent thousands of years asking what suffering is trying to teach.

My work lives where those two conversations meet.

Rather than separating psychological healing from spiritual growth, I see them as deeply connected. Lasting transformation often asks us to understand not only what happened to us, but also who we are becoming because of it.

My work draws from Jungian psychology, depth psychology, archetypal psychology, transpersonal psychology, trauma-informed practice, contemplative psychology, somatic awareness, symbolic exploration, shadow work, and heart-centered ego integration. These traditions are not blended together for novelty—they each help illuminate different dimensions of human experience.

At the heart of my work is the belief that profound experiences do not become transformative simply because they happen. They become transformative through the way we meet them, listen to them, metabolize them, and allow them to change how we live.

Who Benefits Most From This Work

I work best with thoughtful, insight-oriented adults who feel called toward depth rather than quick solutions.

Many of the people who seek this work are therapists, coaches, practitioners, creatives, spiritually curious adults, and people navigating identity transformation, major life transitions, grief, spiritual emergence, shadow work, and profound psychological change.

This is not a general mental health or crisis-care practice. My work is best suited for adults seeking depth-oriented exploration, psychological integration, meaning-making, and support through significant inner change. When intensive stabilization, crisis treatment, substance-use treatment, or another specialized level of care is needed, I may recommend a different or additional provider.

Research and Published Dissertation

My doctoral research explored one question:

How does compassion transform the person who is holding space for another's transformation?

This work examined the ways compassion can become a stabilizing, relational, and transformative capacity for practitioners who hold space for non-ordinary states, emotional intensity, spiritual material, and psychological transformation.

My dissertation, Home Is Where the Heart Is: A Heuristic Study of Feminine Consciousness and the Role of Compassion in Mitigating Countertransference for Women-Identifying Psychedelic Practitioners, was completed through the Integral and Transpersonal PhD program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS).

My dissertation has since become the theoretical foundation for my work in depth-oriented psychotherapy and integration psychology. At the center of my approach is the understanding that integration is not only cognitive. It is relational, symbolic, embodied, ethical, and heart-centered.

Beyond the Credentials

For me, psychotherapy has never simply been about reducing symptoms. It is about helping people understand themselves more deeply.

Clients often tell me they appreciate that I balance warmth with honesty. I will meet you with compassion, while also helping you look directly at the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Whether we are exploring recurring emotional patterns, childhood experiences, symbolic dreams, spiritual questions, or major life transitions, my aim is the same: to help you become more deeply connected to yourself—with greater awareness, compassion, and freedom.

Why Third Realm Integration?

Throughout my work, I've become increasingly fascinated by threshold experiences—those moments when the old way of understanding ourselves no longer fits, but the new way has not yet fully emerged.

These thresholds may arise through childhood trauma, profound grief, spiritual awakening, psychedelic experiences, ketamine treatment, major life transitions, existential questioning, or unexpected events that fundamentally reshape our lives. Whatever the doorway, the challenge is often the same: learning how to integrate what has changed.

I believe these moments deserve more than symptom management alone. They deserve thoughtful integration.

At the heart of my work is the belief that transformation does not occur simply because something extraordinary happened. It occurs through the way we meet that experience—with awareness, relationship, reflection, compassion, and meaning-making. As experiences become integrated rather than avoided, fragmented parts of the self can enter into a more conscious and cooperative relationship, allowing life to be lived with greater wholeness, flexibility, and authenticity.

My work draws from depth psychology, Jungian psychology, archetypal psychology, transpersonal psychology, contemplative psychology, trauma-informed practice, and heart-centered integration. Although each tradition offers a different lens, they share a common aim: helping us understand what suffering is asking of us and supporting lasting psychological transformation.

The name Third Realm Integration was inspired by psychoanalyst Thomas Ogden's concept of the analytic third—the shared psychological space that emerges between therapist and client when both conscious and unconscious experience are held with openness, curiosity, and compassion.

To me, this "third realm" is more than a theoretical concept. It represents the space where genuine change becomes possible—the threshold between who we have been and who we are becoming.

Whether we understand this through the analytic third, Jung’s transcendent function, observer consciousness, or simply the space where healing unfolds, I believe lasting transformation begins when we remain present long enough for a new way of being to emerge.
